Changing the Small Craft Advisory System
"In a move that could simplify and potentially reduce misunderstanding of urgent weather messages used by recreational boaters to make critical boating safety decisions, the National Weather Service (NWS) has proposed renaming 'Small Craft Advisory to 'Small Craft Warning'."

Live Crew Overboard Training
BAMA conducted our 2020 Live Crew Overboard Training event Saturday as scheduled. We had five boats registered. Two dropped out due to weather or illness, but we still had three that showed up.

February Is Seminar Season
As chilly weather continues on the West Coast, many sailing events step indoors for the purpose of preparing for the summer season. Each year at this time, we find our Calendar packed with educational opportunities.
Taking the Plunge for Safety at Sea
On January 11-12, Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina del Rey hosted the second US Sailing two-day Offshore Safety at Sea Seminar. The 48 participants came from as far away as London, Anchorage and Manhattan.
Emergency Rudder Race
Last Saturday, the SSS held an on-the-water seminar to demonstrate emergency steering systems. The seminar included a race, for which skippers deployed emergency steering to get around the course.
